Every school talks about the significance of community to its identity, but at a boarding school those words are truth, not hyperbole or marketing banter. In an age when teachers are encouraged to maintain distance from their students, I know that I love the kids who come into my classroom.
When my wife and I decided to move from teaching at day schools to a boarding school we knew we were in for a big change. We agreed we would throw away our family clock, and try to find our rhythms inside the life of the school to which we were moving.
